Dishes are done, dude.
I will be closing this blog. I don’t feel like I have much to tell the world, and more importantly, I don’t think the world cares about my opinions. I think that everyone who reads this blog is following me on facebook and twitter anyway. If you would like to follow my random thoughts, my twitter username is dtobey23.
Thanks for your attention. Have a great life.
Christianity…hard or easy?
In my opinion there are two different messages about the “hardness” of being a Christian. Recorded in the book of Acts, after Jesus had left the apostles, there was a little dispute. It seems that some of the Jewish converts were giving the non-Jew converts a hard time about not following all the of the freak’n rules, up to and including chopping off some of their most tender parts. The dudes that had followed around Jesus for the last three years decide that they don’t want to make it too hard for new converts, so they come up with a list of just a few rules. They go from a list of 400+ rules to 4.
But what did Jesus say? He said stuff like: following me will cause massive strife in your own family, you have to be willing to leave everyone you love for his sake, you must daily sacrifice yourself and carry a torture device around. He said you have heard this rule, I say what needs to happen is ten times harder.
So which one is it? Is it simple as praying a prayer, then you’re golden? Or is it freak’n hard where you have to give up everything?
Yesterday’s Tea Partys
I am watching some of the coverage of yesterday’s Tea Party demonstrations and I have mixed feelings.
First off, I think it’s great that people can make statements against the government without fear of retribution. In the Republic we live in, it is crucial to be able to pronounce your frustrations with what you are seeing in the policies of the country that you allegedly have a role in. And I even appreciate the fact that this was a play off an original protest from our founding fathers frustrations with heavy taxes.
However, one thing that does jump out at me is the fact that in the original tea party STOLE the tea. I’m not saying that it was right to do that, but it does put their protest on a whole new level. Now, I do concede that they did dress like Native Americans to hide their identities. So does that mean today’s protesters should destroy property to make their point? I don’t think so. Should they have done something different? I don’t really have a better idea.
I do think that in an economic downturn, the government should pay their unemployed citizens to improve the country. And I think finite projects are the best, that way they cannot continue indefinitely. That way we can get a big “thing” built, employ people, stimulate the economy, and then we all reap the benefits of the improvement after the project is done. I think the biggest projects that I would LOVE to see would be reorganizing our power grid. Let’s harness all the wind we have in our massive country and never spend another penny on oil.
I’m not a genius, I’m not even smart, and I’ve only taken a few economics classes offered at the Community College. So, if you don’t agree with me, that’s fine. I’m just some idiot with a blog. Feel free to protest this site! It’s your right. Just don’t steal my tea.
My days…
Right now my days are quite regimented. Until Jennifer gets done with tax season, my days look the same.
I get up, make breakfast and lunch. Then I take Nate to school. Will and I come home and I tackle some house work, like laundry, dishes, toliets…whatever is most dirty. Then make another two lunches, then take Will back to school for his day. I come home finish whatever I started or run some errands. Then I must be back to the school within two hours, twenty minutes.
Then back to the hissy to do homework and have dinner. Boys go to bed at 8:00 then the drinking begins! Just kidding.
I usually am bored watching TV. But I got a cool new thing to do. I can now write stand up. I love having something to do like this. I hope to have some killer stuff and I’m shooting to have my act filmed in June. Then you all (all 15 of you) can check it out.
Standing up
So Easter Sunday is a weird day to take a stand on something, but I did it anyway. I tried for the first time to engage in the art of stand up comedy.
I’ll try to get it video taped sometime in the next couple of months, but you’ll just have to take my word that I killed. I did just over 5 min of material and actually got people to laugh. That was super fun, and I fully intended to do it again. Now that I am riding the adrenaline high, I’ll be up all night perfecting and writing material.
